I thought I had an original idea, until I saw the thread where it was first floated here, but I went ahead with a custom 18V power tool battery build. I had a sander with a burnt motor so it became the donor.
I know we are supposed to build 'em stock first, but planning to use it with sources that don't have any volume control I put a leftover 100k pot in.
I checked over all the wiring and component positioning, used a magnifier to make sure there were no solder bridges, hooked up the cd player and speakers and flicked the switch...
Nothing.
Checked the + and - on the board: 20V...then the "doh" moment, you gotta' install the chip.
This thing sounds pretty d**n good fresh off the iron and has plenty of power.
