Addicted to Crack

The Crack was my first attempt at DIY and i can say for certain that its got me hooked. The whole process was a lot of fun and my "stuff to buy list" has now changed to a "stuff to build list".

I should have invested in a better soldering iron as a couple spots got a little messy... but everything checked out and is sounding great so ill make sure to get something better for the next project and reflow a joint or two on the crack. I was especially happy with the detailed instructions as they were very thorough. I'm not 100% sold on my wood finishing abilities but overall im happy and it will only get better on future projects.

I've just built the basic crack and plan to keep it as is for a while until i get a good measure of it. then ill start with the speedball upgrade and some tube rolling... and probably more down the road.

I'm very happy with the sound so far and can't wait to start some more DIY projects.

Your woodworking looks great.  The finish has a nice old-wood look.  A good build is a good build and it looks to me like you nailed it.

I just got my Crack yesterday from UPS.  It will be later this winter before I can get to work on it but seeing yours makes me want to get started sooner.

That's really quite nice!  Can you share both your finish on the wood base and the paint for the top plate?

Thanks, im pretty happy with how it all turned out. The stain was miniwax English chestnut and miniwax satin polyurethane clearcoat. I ran into problems with the stain as the first coat i got distracted and left on way too long... and had to sand everything down quite a bit. I ended up with about 2 coats of the stain left for 5mins and 3 coats of the satin finish.

The paint is a grey hammertone spray. spraying light thin coats will give you a solid finish with some texture (what i did). if you do 1 or 2 thick coats you will get a more hammered finish.

Nice Work!

As a beginner myself I have built a Seduction Phono and the Extended Foreplay. I am absolutely hooked on building my own and the number of ideas and options available on this forum means that now instead of always being new to upgrade, I can modify with different parts. It has been a great learning experience. Your wood working skills look good to me.

Cheers;

Mike
