Hey Greg - that brings back a memory I had as a kid in the 60's, probably, when the gas prices were 'unstable'. There was rumor that the price per gallon could go as high as $1.00. I remember it like it was like yesterday. A panic set in. I was just a kid. I wasnt driving yet, although it communicated a very real fear. Of course my dad was indulging in the biggest V-8's you could buy at the time, not that you had to look far to find them. We had a 64' Buick Riviera as our 'around town' family car. I remember a joke in MAD magazine that had a cartoon with that car and a gas pump being towed behind it. I think it got like 4-6 mpg in the city or something ridiculous like that. Our other 'utility' vehicles were not much better, such as the Chrysler Town and Country,- late 60's vintage. 440 with the 4 barrel. No wonder I was in shock about gas prices! Those tanks were probably like 26 gallons.
I drive hybirds now - we have 2 of them!
