I had my hearing checked a few months ago as I knew I was not hearing much out of my right ear for about 10+ years. They tested it and said the conduction was not working but I had the potential for full hearing in the ear like my left ear already was. So they gave me a stapedectomy, where they went in and pulled out the stapes bone (as it was stuck) and put in a titanium one. The bottlehead gear never sounded so good! I actually think I hear better with my right ear now. It runs in families and my brother and dad have it but have never got it checked. Just putting it out there as I figured nothing would be able to be done. And everyone deserves to hear the BH gear fully!

  That is excellent news. My hearing has been so important to me for all my life. Yes, at 61 years old, I am losing some here and there, and couldn't hate it more. I need hearing aids, and will get some next year. In the meantime, I like to hear of success stories such as yours.

I believe that's pretty similar to what happened to me when I was young. I had a sledding accident that fractured my skull and knocked the anvil out of place (one of your three middle-ear bones - the hammer, the anvil, and the stirrup). It repaired about 80% of my lost hearing, but it left me with a ton of tinnitus.

The upside is that super high-dollar audio upgrades are likely lost on me, so I never have to worry about $500 power cables or whatever.

I was at my audiologist appointment, and mentioned just those three parts of the middle ear to him. He looked at me a bit strangely and said, "Yes, those three parts are actually called the Malleus (hammer), Incus (anvil), and stapes (stirrup)." As though lying about Pluto being a planet wasn't enough in grade school....

If your having hearing issues its never a bad idea to get it checked out - I could have fixed this a long time ago...

Yes, by all means everyone should get their hearing checked once in a while. I had mine done a few months ago, as I have a HF rolloff in my right ear during allergy season that sometimes makes me question the veracity of my judgment calls regarding design development. The audiologist basically said "Your loss is minimal" That was worth the time and money to find out.

I tend to get a lot of wax build up. Need my ENT to clear it out from time to time. This year I went to an audiologist for molds to make custom in ear monitors and she told me to see the ENT first to clear out the canals. Usually I just get some clogging from water or some intermittent problems when it's getting bad. Aftwards it always seems like a hearing upgrade though.
