When I got my Orcas (Classic, now) I used them with my Boston Acoustics 10" sub. After dialing in the crossover and level it was acceptable.
But after about a year I had grown to realized that the bass was slow compared to the Orcas. Then I bought a pair of Dungeness subs. I set them up according to the Blumenstein guidelines and varied only a little from that. I think the stock suggestion is a crossover of a little above 80 Hz with the Dungeness (the model line has changed since then).
Of course, the crossover depends on the main speaker's roll off. Otherwise, if you do not crossover high enough, you end with a bass suck out.
