Thanks for the interest! The cables were in a box with an old DVD player. And I found this morning that they shorted out (don't buy junk cables). It took 3 hrs to figure that one out.

I finished smash up and smash quiet upgrades today. Everything's OK. A bit of advice...follow the resistor values given in the instructions. Avoid mismatched resistors, especially for the coarse adjustment  switch which may cause a left/right volume imbalance.
