New BeePre/Kaiju combo singing beautifully

During one of Doc's crazy sales, I picked up a BeePre and Kaiju combo.  The Kaiju arrived first, and I was able to put it together without too much trouble save for one pesky resistor.  Then when the BeePre came, I had a nasty hum to deal with.  Turns out the 100V mains voltage in Japan was the cause.  I got a step-up transformer, and the hum was gone.  The transformer has two outlets, so a few days later, on a whim, I plugged the Eros into it as well.  There had always been a low level hum on the Eros that I thought was normal.  Now it's completely gone.  :)  There's just a touch of hum from the Kaiju, but I ordered the DC filament supply during the Black Friday sale, so that should take care of that.

On the analog side, I have a Pro-Ject 2Xperience SB DC turntable with a Sumiko Blue Point No. 2 cartridge feeding into an Eros phono stage.  On the digital side, I have an Apple TV and a Marantz CD-6006 CD Player feeding into a Marantz HD-DAC1.  All of that is split and goes into the BeePre/Kaiju and a Mainline.  Speakers are Tekton Design Mini Lores, and headphones are HD-800s.

Overall, it's one hell of an upgrade over the Stereomour II.  Everything is just more rich and powerful.  The bass is deep and tight, voices are right there in the room, and the highs are nice and extended but not harsh.  I'm super happy with my setup right now.  I still have the BeeQuiet upgrade to install, but I'll give it a few more weeks.

Someday, I'll get around to putting some finish on the bases, but it sounds too good to go without for a few days.  :)

Congrats Nick!  If you are looking to jump down the rabbit hole for spending, when i was stationed there I used a 20 amp step up converter (100v to 117v) to the PS Audio Premier Power Plant.  This made a huge difference in sound quality and gave reliable 120v power.  Remember you are on 50Hz power in Tokyo area.  My BH gear didn't have a problem with this.

And to further make you drool, have you been to the hifi shop close to the Wamble gate?  It's all classic 50's and 60's gear and is a fun place to hang out and listen to music.

Regards,

Aaron
