Moreplay Build

The SEX is a great complement to the Moreplay and can handle speakers and headphones.

Is your base white on the sides and bare wood on the top?

Yes, I scraped of the paint on top due to a blemish in the paint. I then oiled with danish oil. I liked the look so kept it. The white is wife approved! Goes with her decor. My speakers are Triangle BR 03’s
I want to build an amp or a phono pre. I imagine the S.E.X. will drive these?

They’re 90 dB efficient speakers so I’d assume so. It depends a lot on your listening space and how loud you like to listen.

The Eros is a great choice for a phono preamp, too. I used one with that U-Turn table and an Ortofon Red before I traded up.

I like the look of the bare top and painted sides!

I’m running the crown xls 1502 now. It was a gift. Plenty of power so I lean more towards loud but my tastes are changing a bit. Which of the other amps you offer might suit me?
Thanks for the feedback by the way!

In my first post I was referring to my budget system. The Moreplay is the first audiophile piece of equipment I have ever purchased. I didn’t mean to imply that the Moreplay is a budget item. I can only say that it has enhanced my system to the point where I am rediscovery old albums, CD’s, recordings and streamed music as if hearing it for the first time. Thanks again to the Bottlehead folks!

Our speaker amps are on our site on this page: https://bottlehead.com/collections/power-amplifiers

We really have three at the moment: the SEX 4 (headphones and speakers, has a switch to increase/decrease feedback, needs some sort of volume control), the Stereomour II (similar in power to SEX 4 but has the preamp and source/volume controls built in, has a bunch of upgrades so you can spend a lot of time on it without replacing it), or the Kaiju (big 300B amp, can be built as mono blocks).

We'll have another amp dropping in the first half of this year. I'll not spoil the announcement but suffice it to say it'll be more powerful than anything we have in the lineup (which comes with a higher price tag).

Good on you for going with a color scheme that has high W.A.F., it goes a long way in this hobby.
As you can tell from my signature, I'm a BH fanboy, especially when it comes to the SEX amps. The beauty of the latest iteration is that it seems designed to pair with the Moreplay, and if 4W/ch doesn't cut it, you could 1) get a second one and go with a pair of mono blocks, or 2) go big with the Kaiju and have a very nice HP amp or the basis for a dynamite 2nd system or 3) wait and see what the BH crew has up their collective sleeves. There are of course other paths.
If you aren't already using a quality outboard phono pre-amp, I can attest to the Eros' performance. Depending on your amplification and phono cartridge, it can be transformative.
So. Many. Choices. Save those pennies...I mean nickels, and enjoy the music.

Hey Karl, thanks for chiming in. The good news is my wife noticed the difference in sound and approved. I’m going to build a set of speakers first but I’m definitely going to build the Eros next. After that an amp.
Yes I’m interested to see what they come up with. I haven’t eliminated the SEX amp because of the pairing. Mono blocks make sense too. I’ll see. Cheers!
