Miscellaneous Ramblings

I read last few posts and thought of a passage I read recently which struck me (while I'm LMAO) so much so that I took a photo of it.  From Steven Erikson's, The Bonehunters.

You know you get up and go to work too early when you have to have the headlights on all through the summer.  It was nice, I only ran the AC twice.

What about the "wife" - oh, sorry, probably shouldnt have said that...

Odd note here.  I have an old Rotel CD player in the work room for music as I work and burning in capacitors.  It developed a squeak, a bad one.  I turned it off and yesterday opened it up.

The squeak came from the CD spindle, made an awful noise turning it by hand.  Everything else worked without a problem.  I found no way to get to the shaft so I put a drop or two of sewing machine oil at the crack and held it so it would seep down to the shaft.  Then a couple of more drops.

It stopped making noise all together.  So I turned it on, and threw oil all over the place.  I got some alcohol wipes and cleaned it all up.

I'm pretty happy that it is back in place and about to burn in another pair of caps.  I have had it on repeat for 16 hours and not a chirp from it.

Nice fix Grainger.  I used to hear from the old timers in my profession that the best machine lubricant was... whale oil!  Once the days of commercial whaling ended they all hoarded it in their basements for personal use as the supplies began to run out.

Wax.. That is hilarious...haha...    I have a little pioneer "mini" system deal that is chirping a little now, will have to do the same thing G...

More rambling....

First an update.  Today, this morning, the Rotel squeaked for a minute.  I might have to disassemble it more for a good lubrication.  No Whale Oil!

I bought 2 pieces of 2'X4' thin plywood.  These will be turned into shelves for my 1X poly outer sleeves and my 2X (Chicago Transit Authority) or 3X (Tommy) poly outer sleeves.  Below that will be my MOFI "Rice Paper" inner sleeves and some clean paper inner sleeves.  A picture will follow when stained and mounted.

But I went to store the plywood and started to smell pot, dope, marijuana, Mary Jane!  Well, I smelled the smoke from it in my work room.  This is impossible!  Nothing has been smoked in this house since the workers left.

So I sat down in the den.  Still smelled it.  I followed my nose and it is coming from outside.  No one is on either of my neighbor's decks.  The breeze seems to be coming from the really BIG church across the interstate (My property backs up to I140).  So I'm thinking it has been so long that something else is triggering my memory banks.

Anyone have a guess?????
