Miscellaneous Holiday Ramblings

First, here we say Merry Christmas, to my Jewish friends I say Happy Chanukah!

Whatever you want to say back is fine with me.

And I will post some odd things from this Christmas below.

I have already cooked, smoked, two 20# turkeys this year.  A third is in the Big Green Egg right now.  One temperature probe in the breast and one for the air temp inside the Egg.

How do I start all that charcoal?  I don't know how to embed a video so here is a link.  Approved for adults only (only 1/3 downloaded, I don't know why, but it was 45 seconds long):

Merry Christmas to you!
The bird looks great.
I've just put my bones on.
One thing about buying a cow direct from the farmer is you get extra's; bones, heart, tongue thrown in.

I bet he is making broth. Grassfed broth???

Grainger, how low will the egg go?  I need a constant 120F

yep -- Grassfed stock. Plus the dog gets Christmas bones and the rest of the family gets sauce for the roast beast.

Grainger , you are killing me man with the turkey photo... i will have fried rice here today.. yeah exciting i know... and aahhhh yes, the green egg... my friend in florida has one and i have to say .. the BEST darned  smoked cheeseburger i EVER had!!! also VERY nice view and deck you have! lovely... and if you have a turkey leg left over, i wouldnt be upset if you stuck it in the post and sent it... i will get it in about 3 weeks... :)

Merry X-mas! and happy Hanukkah! to all my fellow bottleheads!
and may Santa bring You all the gift of music. (and that new pair of tubes we have all been wishing for)

I got a gift card for the "really expensive cooking stuff" store. came face to face with the Green Egg.

Man, that is one serious piece of Smokerage!...John

2wo,  It weighs in at about 150+ pounds.  But It is the best thing I have ever used.  The meat comes out juicy, most white meat eaters don't know what to say since they are used to it being so dry.  It is enough to make me like white meat for the first time in 62 years.

my florida friend even has the remote electronics for it... he can control it from afar, and sleep while it is cooking etc.. really cool... and yes i have to second the "juicy" description..great stuff

That is my next accessory.  There is a fan that controls the air temperature inside. I already have a remote thermometer that tells me when the meat reaches the preset temperature.

yeah it is a great product, not a beauty like those huge stainless steel grills we see, BUT it becomes very beautiful when you start to see and taste its performance.... intelligent design... the kind of thing that attracts my attention...
