Lh Labs Tube VI Dac and Linear power question.

Hey guys,

So i was searching the Web for tube stuff and found this forum. As you might have guessed i do work for LH Labs (subsid of Light Harmonic) and we are building a Tube Version of our "Vi" dac and i was given the task of getting our hands on some telefunken tubes.

See we made a "Signature Edition" of this and have sold out of the TFT tubes but i was able to acquire Siemens Tubes in its place (Sorta)

It is hard to find literature on the differences sound wise on these as the price isn't much of a difference. This is my first rodeo in the tube market (I mostly do digital and mixing).

If you are asking for the sonic difference between Siemens and Telefunken, the Siemens tend to be a little brighter, particularly if they are the nickel plate versions. That's about as much as one can hand wave on the subject without knowing exactly what tube we are talking about.

the Telefunken are Telefunken E88CC  6922  CCa

And the Siemens are E88CC 6922 SIEMENS

If as you said one is brighter than the other i am sure it will not be as popular as the other tube, being that my buyers wanted a warmer sound of the ages (Which i am not to familiar with, being a digital man myself). We are building six hot swap boards for our Vi unit all have different tubes, different capicitors, and different connection pieces and transformers. So far one of those boards will have,

Tube Telefunken E88cc 6922,
with Jupiter capacitors,
Cardas XLR connections
a Lundahl balanced transformer on a single board for swapping.

It's been years since I owned any equipment that used the 6DJ8/6922 series of tubes.  However, back in the day when I did own some (line stage preamp, digital player and phono stage), I did some extensive comparisons.

The made-in-Holland Amperex always sounded way more "musical" to me than any of the Telefunken/Siemens, except for maybe the earliest 1950s Siemens.  I strongly suggest you give them a try.

The problem with 6922s is that the fundamental question has become "what is your budget?" The best sounding are Tele E88CC or Amperex 7308 - which are the same tube. I think they tend to go for around $150-$300 each these days. Probably the best bang for the buck is a Reflector 6N23P.

all in all we are charging pretty much the cost to build for pre-sale, this is $888 for this board while the main DAC is $3,499 (retailed)

my pre-sale customers didn't mind this price as we pretty much told them what is in it and they can see its pretty close to cost. I'm going to look into the Reflector 6N23P and see what we can do with this.
