IMPORTANT ANNOUNCEMENT: Forum Migration

We have made the decision to migrate the forums to a new platform. This forum has served Bottlehead well over the years but it is built on technology that we don’t really fully understand how to operate and don’t have the desire to learn. This came to a head recently when changing email providers broke our ability to send forum emails like password resets or account activations.

The new forums will be hosted at forums.bottlehead.com (note the “s” at the end of forums). We are working with the new platform to perform a full migration. We’re told this will include accounts, passwords, and all posts and PMs. It’s prudent to make a backup of any important private messages just in case.

We chose XenForo as the new platform because it is a managed service that will provide ongoing security and feature updates, and because it retains a similar look and feel to this site. I imagine there will be some growing pains so I am grateful for your patience.

This migration will take place on August 7. We will keep you apprised of any issues or changes.

Some feedback on the migration: My account is working and all my old posts are intact it seems. I even now get notifications which stopped working on the old forum (not a complaint). I would recommend for everybody to go through account settings again because this forum has more options and some settings changed. Anyways, good work with the migration, I appreciate keeping the forum alive and working. Thanks.

Glad to hear you’re liking it. PB found a pretty annoying issue earlier today that we were able to fix, so I’m happy to see positive feedback!

Dig the new forum, and thought the migration was smooth!

One bit of feedback: it would be great if old forum links forwarded automatically to the new forum.

Given the amount of content and the limited amount of support resources we have, I don’t think that’s realistic. I’ll probably do a wildcard redirect that sends all traffic for the old forum to the homepage for the new forums, but I wanted to make sure this new platform worked well enough before doing anything that’d take time and effort to undo.

I'm still trying to talk them into bringing back the old style website that scrolled horizontally, but I think they stopped listening...

Hello Sir.
I have a question.
When searching for info online about my Foreplay 2 I noticed when I click on a post from a different website that pertains to my inquiry, the answer is on this forum but when it opens instead of going to the issue it goes to the main page of bottlehead, but not to the link. Is that problem going to be addressed soon as well?

This is likely a consequence of the forum migration going from forum.bottlehead.com to forums.bottlehead.com. You can try a few things to get around this. Using the internet archive may allow you to open the link and see an archived version of the page. I tried modifying the URL of an old link to be "forums" instead of "forum" and that didn't end up working.

If you know what you're looking for regarding the FP-II, you could likely dig it up through the search on here.

Correct. We had countless legacy forum URLs so creating 301 redirects for each was outside my skill set (or at least outside my current bandwidth). Unfortunately until Google re-indexes the forums this is the expected behavior.

Not ideal, I know, but you should be able to search here using the forums’ search and find the same topic.
