Crack Noir

I had a real hard time finding black smoked tubes to complete the look I was after, I had a Tung-sol 12au7 black glass but finding a smoked driver tube was a nightmare. After a long time spent hunting for one I went with a uber rare and rather special RCA 6080 PIBs and a matching RCA 12au7 PIBs the combination though a little dark actually sounds pretty good!

Is that CF look vinyl wrap on the base? Looks killer. I have just about completed this wrap job as of last night -

Cheers guys the Crack Noir was a little bit of fun for April the 1st, I used some offcuts of Vinyl Wrap and the RCA PIBs (Paint it Black specials) I dunked in a can of black paint. A wipe over with some acetone and they are now back to normal.

I just wrapped up my Zebrano enclosure, really just to see how it would looked and to be honest it confirmed my thoughts that going all black is really not my thing and I was happier once I had peeled it all off and revelled the wood again.  I guess its good for an example of vinyl wrapping a crack and there are some awesome graphics available.

Nice job on the tank doc, the Crack was easy to wrap up but something like your tank with all the double curvature is actually a lot lot harder to get right than most would think.

You ain't kiddin'. The project was a bear and the final result just barely acceptable to me. A black vinyl half bra will cover the back half where the wrap would pucker when I tried to get it smooth on the tapering concavity. I used to beat myself up over a flaw here and there when restoring antique radios, and yet the sum of the parts would end up outweighing the flaws every time. Wabi-sabi. Hopefully this project will turn out that way too.

April fool or not that all black amp looked cool. Makes me think of Robocop's Taurus.
