Wirewound aluminum housed resistor

Ok well I have seen a few of these in some of the builds posted on the bh forum, I didn't know what they were but found out the other day they are in fact resistors. Which now begs the question as why use one of these what application is it suited to I am guessing they get hot by the look of the alloy housing?

Yup you guessed it, bolt them to a chassis for high thermal dissipation.  They can be rated for 100's of watts.
