I recently picked up a ton of tube gear including this mod foreplay. What is going on with it?

The only original parts are the chassis panel, the power switch and terminal strips. The C4S boards are some sort of rip-offs, and nothing else looks like a stock part. Well, maybe the RCA jacks. You're pretty much looking at a not-Bottlehead product otherwise. I don't know what the other PC board is or why there is an extra power transformer, but someone here might.
Might be a SMPS to power the 12AU7 heaters. That would be a bit unfortunate.
