Hello All-
First, I have to send a huge thank you to Dan and Eileen. I live about an hour and a half from Bottleheadquarters so I made the trip up to visit the shop and pick up my Stereomour and Speedball kits a couple days ago. If you have the chance to visit them I definitely recommend it. The time I spent there was easily the most enjoyable retail experience I've ever had - really it was just plain fun. The system upstairs that Doc has put together sounds fantastic. And I even got a little sneak peak into the lab!
As for my Crack, I finished it tonight and I am extremely pleased with the sound. The background is absolutely dead silent, I've got no microphonics at all, and it is just so musical. I'm not going to try to describe what I hear, but it truly is excellent. The Speedball will be going in after a couple weeks.
The woodwork is a bit down and dirty. I cut the base using a coping saw and fixed the mistakes with an orbital sander. It was somewhat a proof of concept experiment, I plan to replicate the shape using zebra wood sometime in the future.
The cables I made using Belden 1505 and some plugs from PE. I'll be making a few more sets for all the rest of the pieces in my system.
The photos aren't the greatest, but it can be hard to find good natural light during a Pacific northwest winter!
I must say I am very, very satisfied with my experience with Bottlehead. Now to start work on my Stereomour.
