A most satisfying kit.  I really enjoyed puting this together.  Thanks to Doc and all the others who make these kits available.

Upgrades include Speedball, Mundorf caps, TKD pot and the faceplate and transformer end bell are copper plated.  Yea I know crazy, but it was fun!

Absolutely beautiful Brian, welcome! I like the little things, such as the Allen bolts. The Osram tube is great, what is it? I also like the fact it is sitting next to a rotary phone. Great job, enjoy.

Cheers,
Shawn

The tube/valve looks like a Osram 6AS7G also known as A1834. I have never used one. It has an excellent reputation.

Just in case you must have one: there is at least one on eXxx right now for $250.

I love the routing on the front and the polished top.  Very retro look.  I'm impressed.

I agree. These wooden box amps are very steam punk to begin with, but you certainly raised the bar.

[edit] The Bakelite phone ads a nice touch as well [/edit]

Outstanding work!

With all the detail you went into for the finishing I expect the wiring to be very tidy as well.  How about a shot of the underside?

Wow!  Thanks for all the kind words. Let me see if I can answer some of your questions. I was attempting to capture that art deco/retro look hence the copper and fluting on the front. It goes well with the phone to  :) which is a fully restored Automatic Electric model 40 from the 50's (another hobby of mine).

Grufti is correct it is a 6AS7G. I wish I could describe its sound like some of the other tube descriptions I have read on this forum but I am a newbie at this audiophile stuff so all I can say at this point is it sounds really good!

I'll see if I can get a picture of the underside posted later tonight. I'll warn you though Grainger that the back of the faceplate is a bit rough looking due to the copper plating process. Also as everyone knows those Mundorf caps posed a bit of a challenge to fit in. If I had a do over I would wire them Differently then what I did.  Thanks all!

Very, very nice.  I have to go with "simple" as my wood and metal working skills are very basic so I justify with function over sex appeal   ;D    But that is very, very nice indeed.  Maybe my favorite among those in the gallery and there are some really nice examples posted here.   I like the socket cap screws too.  Nice touch.   Well done.
