And why is there a band aid on the wall between the candles?

That's a cardboard flap on a box.  I'd say there wouldn't be much hope for you if you needed a band aid that large.

Did you cut the plate or fabricate a new one? I like your layout.

I cut the the plate using my table saw and used one of the scrap pieces to mount the in/out jacks on the back.
