Updated...Foreplay ll, interested in ps cap mod, how to identify 1st, 2nd and 3rd stage

You are correct.
Ive been reading like crazy and archiving page after page of bypass info.
Alot of info and alot is all over the place.
Seems like i learned some and will try different caps and see how they work together.
Will be a fun adventure but with 20 years out of the loop some of the ones i want to try are no longer available but alls not lost as there are still others i can play with.
Just as i was gaining traction on this just tonite my REL sub decided to misbehave so i need to get that sorted out first, hoping a recap takes care of it as one of the big main caps is starting to bulge on the top of it, they are factory installed Daewoo caps, i'll replace em with some nice Nichicons.
Also my Auricap xo's are breaking in with only about 22 hrs on them at this point so im not in that big of a hurry to bypass the ps just yet. The xo's are like roller coaster ride as they break in. Pretty fun ride so far.

These are definitely not as easily repaired as they used to be!
 
Its an older Strata lll model.
Only 10 screws and the amp plate pops right off the back.
Not much in way of lots of electronics it looks like, the 2 main 100v caps are front and center and the 3 25v smaller caps are behind them somewhat.
It was given to me but i had to replace a resister that was an issue in this model that would go bad over time, replaced that and its been playing fine ever since...
That is untill the other day.
If that dont fix it then it will be shelved untill my budget allows it to go to a repair shop.
Im not an electro wizard by any means but i try to take in as much as my 64 yr old mind allows these days. I know my limits and i dont push past them.
I dont know what i would do without the internet these days.
I think its one of the most important things ever created, me thinks.
 
I've worked on one of those, they are about as simple as you can get (which is a good thing when you have a 25-year-old plate amp that you want to fix). I'd definitely pay to have that fixed so you can keep it going.
 
It really is a great sounding sub. Its a keeper.
Mine is cherry color. Lots of adjustments but once you get it dialed in it sounds pretty sweet.
Was it the R8 board resister that you repaired?
That was what was wrong with it with the first repair, they say it was under specced from the get go.
I cant remember the specs off hand but i installed a larger one and raised it off the board some to help with cooling.
