Trimming ends on resistors etc.

Okay, maybe it's really obvious, but I wanted to check: The manual is extremely explicit, which is great, and I've been following it pretty closely. I don't think it said to trim the ends of anything (such as the UF4007 or the 22.1 resistor). Mine are sticking waaay far out now, though. Is it just a given that I should trim them first? If so, should I trim and then attach/solder, or push the leads through, solder (if required) and then snip (as a general tip?)? Thanks!

*I took some pictures, but the forum is saying that I can't put in an external link. Basically just picture the resistor like it's on a pair of stilts at the moment*

Okay, so the first two rectifier instructions don't say to trim (bottom of page 38 and top of 39), but the next two say to trim to 1/4" pass the bend. So safe to assume to trim the first two I reckon?
