Speaker Static Issue

Hi Doc,

We've been using our new speakers for a few months now and are overall very pleased with the sound.

However, a couple weeks ago we noticed a static buzzing noise coming from one of the speakers (the right one if that matters) right after the music stop playing. Could it be a serious amp issue or the speakers themselves? We tried disconnecting and reconnecting all the wires. It's the Stereomour II amp and Pipette speakers set.

Need more info to give a definitive answer. Try swapping the speakers from side to side to determine if the noise moves with the speaker or if it stays in the same channel of the amp when the speakers are swapped.

If the noise does not move when the speakers are swapped it is coming from the amp (or the source). From your description I am guessing this is what you are hearing. A buzzing sound from the amp usually indicates a bad ground connection. Most often this is due to a cold solder joint or a oxidized tube pins. The best approach is to check the solder connections under the amp to see if there is a loose one, or if there is a questionable looking solder joint. Also try removing and replacing the tubes, which may clean off oxidation and make for better pin contact in the socket. You can also try swapping the tubes from side to side to see if the noise follows one tube. It's also worthwhile to work the selector switch back and forth a bit to clean the switch contacts.

If the noise moves with the speaker when you swap them it may be that the wires inside are buzzing against the speaker driver. In that case try removing the speaker driver and moving the speaker wires so they won't touch the speaker driver.
