Mythbusters did a segment on exploding CDs.  They had to use a router to get the right speed but the slow motion was great.

Years ago when i worked for Gateway 2000 we used to ship a Plextor 52x cd-rom which would shatter CD's, most frequent were the ones you got free with computer magazines that had a lot of graphics printed onto the face causing them to spin out of balance.  All you needed was enough data on the disk to read out the very outer edge and they went bang. Needless to say those drives weren't sold for very long
