Quickie + Seduction + SEX ?

I'm thinking of making a Quickie to use with my Seduction and SEX amps. Would this be a good fit? Ideally I would have three inputs, but I figure I can upgrade to the new Foreplay later.

I could always use one of these to take care of the extra input.

Further questions:

What disadvantage is there to mounting the batteries on the underside of the chassis?

How hot does the underside get? The only place I have for it is on top of my CD player, which has three rows of ventilation slats on the top. One half of one of these three rows would be covered by the Quickie.
 
Sure, the Quickie should work well in that situation.

Mounting the 9V holders on the bottom of the plate will lead to the batteries being very prone to popping out.  You can address this with a big rubber band, or different parts.

The Quickie produces very, very little heat.  You can touch the tubes while it's running without any real sensation of heat.
 
This is starting to sound very appealing to me. Rubber bands would be pretty ugly. What different parts could I use to keep the batteries locked in place?

How much gain does the Quickie have?
 
Or use some velcro straps -- with this little heat there is likely not going to be a problem with the self-adhesive backing.

So, do I use the Quickie or the SEX to control volume? I'm guessing the Quickie. Set the SEX amp to the highest point without distortion and then adjust using the Quickie?
 
Hey Sam - the Quickie is a fun kit, and super modifiable. If you want to add more inputs just drill some extra holes and a multi pole switch. I actually didnt want more than one input so I got rid of the switch. Batteries can be attached or not attached etc. Huge number of ways to mod it. Mine generates no heat. I didnt even bother making a box for it. Just glued some large crutch tips to the bottom.
 
Sam - the Quickie will more than 'hold you over' till the next best thing. I was thinking about running it from biogas coming out of my ass....hummm.
 
Sam, I will have a similar set-up after I build the sex kit I have ordered. Mine will be Eros, Quckie, Sex/Crack though. I use the Quickie for volume, I put a 32 step attenuator in the circuit. I put my batteries under the plate, I used a couple of pieces of self adhesive velcro on either side of the 9 volts, then a piece goes across the 9 volt holders. I haven't had any problems. I think you will be pleasantly surprised at the sound quality of the Quickie.

What attenuator do you use, exactly, and how would you describe the improvement it brings?

Do you put your Crack/SEX at full volume? I was thinking of experimenting with this, since I get a little hum from the phone at around 1 o'clock on the SEX. I might set it to half (noon) and see if that gives me enough volume using the Quickie.  But first I have to convince my wife to let me buy a Quickie  ;D
 
Sam, I started with a Khozmo attenuator in the Quickie but pulled it to put in the Sex when I get the kit. I built one using a Shallco switch I bought some time ago. I believe these switches are discontinued but I think Michael Percy and VT4C in China still have them in stock. I'm not sure that the sound quality from stepped attenuators are a vast improvement over wipers, but you rarely have any issues with either channel being louder than the other. I have found that using the discrete set up for an attenuator, (leaded resistors vs. surface mount) gives much better results. I have a fondness for the attenuators though, I like the tactile feedback from turning the switch. When listening to vinyl using the Crack I have it set around noon and the Quickie at 1:00 or 2:00. The Eros has more gain than the seduction so that would probably be different for you. I don't have the Sex yet, but I borrowed a 2 watt Chinese amp from a friend before I ordered to verify that 2 watts would be sufficient, I have been setting it at 2:00, as well as the Quickie and there is a lot of room left. Hope this helps.

So I'm using one of those adapters from AudioQuest on my just-completed Quickie. But it seems to be negatively impacting the sound quality. How is that possible?

I have the Seduction and a CD player plugged into it and into one of the two Quickie inputs. With the CD player opn stand-by the quality of the Seduction just plain stinks. But strangely enough, even though it's better, when I turn the CD player completely off, the sound still is much worse.

Do these adapter simply not work? There's still a signal coming from the CD player, even when it's off?
 
The Seduction and CD player are in parallel.  Rather than the Seduction "seeing" the impedance of the Quickie volume pot the output of the CD player is in parallel with the pot. 

Your problem is the interaction of the two source outputs with each other.

The adapters are very effective on the output, I split my FP 2 output to a sub and my Paramours.
 
Sorry, Jim, I didn't take into account you not being able to see the pic at the top of the page. It's an "AudioQuest adapter RCA male to two RCA female. No product no. that I know of.

Ok, then Grainger is correct -- it won't work that way.  Doesn't the quickie have two inputs?

What happens when you just plug one source into the quickie?

Yeah, it's got two inputs, but I have three sources: PC, CD, Phono.

I don't quite understand why it doesn't work if the CD player is totally turned off.

With both plugged in to the adapter the CD player works fine. I guess when I listen to vinyl I'll just unplug the RCAs going to the CDP.
