Procedure for inserting/removing headphones

I have noticed that when I put in/take out my headphones there is a bit of a pop.

Also, when I take out the headphone tip it is extremely hot.  Is this normal?

I have done the headphone jack mod (grounding) for the start up voltage.

Am I using the amp correctly regards to connecting and disconnecting headphones?

Method A:

1.  Turn on amp with no headphones and volume at 0.
2.  Wait 30 seconds or more then connect headphones with volume at 0.
3.  When done listening to music turn volume to 0 and disconnect headphones
4.  Turn off amp.

or should I do this:

Method B:

1.  Turn on amp with no headphones and volume at 0.
2.  Wait 30 seconds or more then connect headphones with volume at 0.
3.  When done listening to music turn volume to 0.
4.  Turn off amp.
5.  Disconnect headphones

If I do method B when turning off the amp first if I wait 30 sec or more before taking out my headphones I don't get any pop.

Thanks very much.  Just don't feel like ruining a pair of headphones.

Around here we leave headphones plugged in and power up and down Crack amps and our other amps with expensive headphones a lot and we don't have any problems. But if you are worried about pops the logical approach would be always plug in headphones (into any device, not just ours) after you have powered it up and always pull them out before you power it down. And always make sure the attenuator is turned all the way down before you plug the headphones in, i.e. always roll it down after you use the amp.

I appreciate it.  The only difference with leaving them plugged in is that you can be sure for yours that a professional built it, whereas mine well let's just say I'm not professional!  

I will test my out some more.  When I insert the headphones when the amp is on (at 0 volume) I get the sound most like plugging a guitar into an amp when the amp is on.  I guess it won't hurt the headphones.
