Paramounts in the Show-Me State

I still think that once a day for a week with a good wood wax at the end will create a lifetime finish for something that won't be constantly "handled".

I imagine that something that is hand-worn and continually treated with BLO as described would develop quite character of it's own.  The BLO will partially dissolve the existing finish as it adds a new layer on top.  this would heal any wear that occurred with hand rubbing.  If you worked on the range or farm where you carried "handled" your rifle or pistol every day, then this would be like regular maintenance.  You are already cleaning, and occasionally re-bluing the barrel anyway.  Probably no different than annually re-sealing your outdoor lawn furniture with water seal.

I still like a good polyurethane for wood furniture.  It is thicker and more protective against spills and cat claws.  The BLO seems more natural and a good fit for the bottlehead bases.  It kind of gives the wood an aged look that compliments the tubes very well.  I did use a poly on the Wenge wood that I used for my Paramours.  That wood has really big grain with big rifts and I felt the poly would do a better job of filling and protecting it.  Also, the Wenge is so dark that I didn't think the amber of the BLO would show through anyway.
