Output power [resolved]

Newbe here. I just finished the Moreplay/SEX 4 combo. I currently run two Denon SC-M53 bookshelf speakers. They have an impedance of 6 ohms and a sensitivity of 86 dB. I wired the SEX kit for an impedance of 8 ohms, thinking I would benefit from the extra power. I use an Ohlbach phono preamp (40 dB gain / 600 mV output voltage). To my surprise, I only have to use the first 20 percent of the volume knob to reach normal listening levels (small apartment). I can even turn the Moreplay entirely off! I thought the speakers would be much tougher to drive, so I'm quite surprised by the output power of the SEX amp. The speakers are not a great match, but I'm quite lost at what kind of speakers to use for this setup. Any advice would be great!

You could definitely try the 4 ohm configuration. It would mellow the bass out slightly, lower distortion, and lower gain a bit. In a room that's not large with music that's not demanding, 5W will be plenty for a lot of speakers.

I rewired it to the 4 ohm configuration and it makes a lot of difference on the volume control.
Thanks!
