New Eros build - Resistance numbers off

Hello all,

Completed my new Eros today.  All boards went in well and no obvious cold joints.  When I checked resistance numbers, tabs 1 thru 5 are off.
1 - 47 (supposed to be zero)
2 - 120 (60)
3 - 0 (0)
4 - 120 (60)
5 - 47 (0)

6 thru 30 all good
Pins on the RCAs good

Any thoughts?

Got it!! 

Should have thought it through.  No good ground connection and realized that it was picking up 47 Kohm off of input.  Mis-wired T5U to T19 instead of T20.  All good - AND found a wire that snapped off to one of the C4S boards.  That hookup wire can be a bit brittle.

The hookup wire isn't really that brittle. What happens is a lot of wire strippers nick the wire right where they cut the insulation. That creates a stress point and the wire cracks at the nick.

Yes, I think that you are correct.  Seemed to be little nicks whether I used a stripper (gauge wasn't quite right) or knife. 

Voltages all fine, LEDs lit, so I plugged it into the system.  Sounds great!  Too late for an extended session but first thing I noticed was the bass extension.  I am using a Denon DL110 cart so the extra gain is nice too.  No buzz, hum or anything I and I am in a high RFI environment.  Looking forward to a LOOONG session to put it through its paces.

I can't say enough about how clear the instructions are and the build is so intuitive.  I cannot imagine how difficult it is to design the circuit, get it optimized AND THEN figure out stepwise how to explain how to build it up for non-mechanicals like me!

Thanks for another great kit.  Will think about retiring my modded Foreplay 2 for a BeePre soon.

What gauge do you suggest.  My Ideal stripper, the fancy one, didn't go small enough.  I used 24 gauge on an Ideal T-Stripper (45-121) and had two wires break.  Is the Teflon coated wire metric?

The Teflon insulated wire is 22ga.

On 22 AWG on the cheaper Ideal stripper it peels off some of the insulation.  I checked this afternoon before posting since I didn't remember what gauge I stripped the wire with.

What does Bottlehead use for stripping when repairing?

I use a stripmaster, the guys like those cheapass little plier-like ones that you can adjust with a set screw.

I like the cheap one myself.  After you get used to it, it works like a champ.

My Stripmaster didn't go to 24 ga.  But the lowest also didn't take a thing off of the wire.  There are two models and I think I got the one with the smaller die.  Maybe not.

I had one of the cheap adjustable ones back in the 70s.  I cut more wire than I stripped.  I was awful at it.  So they are not for everybody.
