my system

Yes. The front and left walls are tiled with acoustic foam ( absorbers) and the right wall has diffusers. The rear wall is still hard and I may put in some diffusers at a later date. At present I dont really need it as I do get a depth of 20ft, in my soundstage. :)
The floor is carpeted and the roof is left hard. The lofts are filled with fabric and acts like a bass trap. My listening chair ( sofa) has a cavity at the bottom, which is filled with acoustic foam, creating another bass trap. As you may guess, I have a copy of the Handbook of Acoustics. It has been a dream project and I am glad it is nearly over!!

Dude, show 'em the sides and backs of those speakers, so they don't think that they are just panels.
Guys, these speakers are an incredible idea, using a cavity behind the panel as a hemholtz resonator tuned to about 40hz, with an adjustable mouth. Shreekant is being too shy here.

In my room, I have positioned the slot to be as open as possible. I judged that by aligning it with the wood piece just below it that makes up the smaller enclosure under the sliding piece. The opening looks to be a little more than 1/2" .  In your case, it could be quite different, looking at the size of your room. Mine is 13'X19'X8'. I have also made use of a bass trap, using my coat closet for the space.

Yes. I have the slot open a bit more, as I feel it sounds better. But I still need a sub and I am using a death box for that. I have just put in the Zbox into the mix, to give the Oppo a tube finish. So basically it is oppo to zbox to quickie to sex 2.1

Shreekant,

I have a soft end and hard end in my listening room.  The soft end is behind me.  I like the layout and you have spent what I would consider a fortune on Sonex tiles.  I'm sure they are very effective!

Can you take a couple of more pictures and call out the components?  I see something on its edge behind the rack in the third picture.  Inquiring minds and all.

BTW, in my FAQ thread I have instructions for hosted pictures.  FAQ #8:

FAQ Thread

Thanks for the FAQ, but I will do it with a better camera. Give me a few days.

Now to get into detail.

1) My earlier room had diffusers in front and abs on the rear. I wanted to try out a different layout. Helps in learning more and facing the new challenges that come with it. I have tried to keep a balance between the hard and soft walls, so no opposite sides have the same surface ( to a large extent)
There is a loft over the left speaker that measures around 4 x 6 ft. This is stuffed to make a bass trap. On the rear wall there is a loft which has my earlier bass trap ( 5ft x 18").  placed in there. A somewhat mid bass trap in the cavity of my listening sofa, which also is well packed with foam for seating.

2)Behind the left speaker, you may see something like a box. That is the power regulator for my air conditioner, which is a Diaken. Runs at about 28db, so you don't hear it. The power supply for the air conditioner is separate from the one that supplies the system.
There is a  constant voltage transformer which supplies the power for the system. This ensures that the voltage is true and no junk gets in.

3)On the second shelf, you will see a wooden box placed sideways. It is plate amp for the sub. It drives the subwoofer that is placed behind the rack. This is  the deathbox ( 10" down firing, adjustable cabinet). I did think about having 2 subs, and I do have a cabinet made, but for now I don't what to do too many things. Maybe a second sub later for fun. The sub sits on three brass footers which are placed on a  maple wood slab, which is again placed on three brass footers.

4) The rack is maple wood with iso blocks and brass footers, which I got done here. The quickie sits on vibrapods and is placed backwards, for easy access to changing battery's and have shorter cable runs. The sex amp has a 9mm aluminum base plate(ventilated) , which sits on 3 brass footers.

5) The binding post on the SEX and speakers, as well as the bananas from the amp to sub are rhodium plated. Four of the six RCA's are rhodium plated. At present I have put in a ZBox which has a 12at7 mullard, which runs the mullards on the quickie, which runs the GE's on the SEX
. The sub cable is supra. The speaker cables are 8awg, 133 strand, silver plated copper. All power cords and tubes are cryo treated. I have a whole load of IC's (DIY) from Allen Wright's design to some belden as well. Power cord design are braided, twisted and shielded. The IEC are wattgate and some rhodium plated ones.

6) The SEX has the oimp vcaps and the quickie now has the obbligato and the pots are TKD.

And finally, I still think there is a lot to do :o :o

shreekant, a hard working audiophile!!

Oh! I forgot, in the third pic on the right corner is a glass.....it was blended scotch ( dewars, I love that stuff) with soda ( highball)!!!

This is one of the few systems that I have seen that is set up correctly! Most important, is your attention to acoustics. Money well spent! Look at those $1,000 power cords some people buy, tsk tsk tsk, if only they put into something more useful.
Now the typo 'brass woofers' still gives a cool visual to my mind, but I know what you meant.
The Zbox is an excellent idea for the cd player, just wish more people realized the potential for buffer amps in a system.
I also use a sub with my ZOB speakers now and then, but sparingly.

Very impressed sir. Well thought out.

you are now forgiven. You may talk to me again...It does remind me of a story. I was at a large company meeting, when someone nearby made the comment, "What, do you think we have crystal balls?" I had no choice, Eric understands...I replied, "Your balls may be made of glass, but mine are twice as big and made of brass." Silence, then uncontrolled laughter. I excused myself and went to the bathroom. No, in another room.
