So I got the Speedball kit from Jim R. for a song. Put it together yesterday and today.
How many times does everyone say to take it slow and re-read steps, etc, etc..? And I've done four or five kits!
Still: I put the heat sinks on the wrong side of the boards
Anyway, I had them all soldered in place and it was tough getting them off again. I had to unscrew the transistor first, then get the heat sink off, then work at the transistor. My solder wick wasn't so successful at getting all the solder so I ended up really giving those transistors a beating to get them out and re-attached to the heat sink. Anyway, finally the heat sinks are on the right side (don't tell me it wouldn't have mattered!).
I was convinced I'd broken the transistors. Plus, I was in a foul mood because of it, and still continued with the build. Never a good thing, right?
And with all the stories of difficult Speedball builds, mine checked out OK with voltage readings. I'm now listening to it and loving it!!
