My first Bottlehead - Purple Crack w/Speedball

Just completed and sounding great. Still need to sand, stain, finish the base, but that will have to wait. More details over in the Crack forum.

I like your answer to the big caps.  The 3M device, called sticky backs by electricians, will let loose.  The heat accelerates the glue letting go.

Or at least that was a problem some years ago.  You would think 3M would fix this problem.

Yeah, I didn't want to risk double-sided tape and/or silicone coming loose at some time and having those caps drop down and possibly shorting something. And I didn't want to put anymore holes/screws in the top plate.

Mounting to the sides of wood base was fairly easy and has the added benefit of getting the big caps down lower, away from other wiring. I would think should also help with cooling as it opens up the path to the top plate vents.

Update: got motivated and finished the base. Not perfect, a few blemishes, and I probably should have used some conditioner before the stain. But it does the job. Used some panhead cabinet screws to hold down the top plate, countersunk into the edge of the base.

Hey,  it's funny how colors go together. Before you finished the base, I did not like the top plate color so much. After finishing, it changed my opinion. For me, it is hard to imagine how colors will work together until I do it.
I also appreciate the attachment to the base with the eyelet screws for the caps. They are big and need the kind of attachment that will be permanent. I'll keep it in mind for some of my future builds.

What did You use?

Nothing all that special or elaborate, just Miniwax Jacobian stain and couple coats of satin polyurethane.
