Midline preamp?

I certainly don't want to tell the folks at BH how to run their business as they seem to be doing a great job of that already! ;-) However, I'd really like to see another preamp that falls somewhere between the Quickie and BeePre, and something I don't have to worry about batteries with. Other than that, it should have inputs, at least one output, tubes and gain.

Maybe a 6J5 or 6SN7? From that string I would assume a DHT of some sort but don't forget the octal love!

If anyone wants a poor man's BeePre a Crack can be converted to a voltage amp using the 6080 only and the 9pin socket could be used for a regulator. A clever experimenter can add a c4s and a regulator. A not so knowledgeable one can skip the small tube and just use the 6080. Should be cheap, easy and good. Better than a Bee Pre? No. Better than a CF Crack as a preamp? I'd expect much better.

Cmon guys. Try it for yourselves!

I have already converted a Crack to a guitar amp and now it'll do service as a znf otl amp for high impedance speakers.

You could indeed do that, but then when you compared it to a Quickie, you might be disappointed.

I saw that thread and think it's encouraging.  I know after building the Quickie I am much more interested in Bottlehead products.  From where I sit, mid-line products sound like a good idea; but the folks at Bottlehead Central have to look at the big picture.

At any rate I will be watching and see where things go.
