Leather on top...

Hi and Happy Holidays!

I've been comsidering dressing up my upcoming Mainline with tanned and stained leather.
(Top plate)
Any thoughts, You think the 6C45s would be too hot for it? Any other things I haven't considered?

The 6C45 does run nice and toasty, and you might end up drying out/cracking the leather.  Some internet research would need to be done!

I would also wonder about the leather stretching/shrinking/moving around.

Thanks PB.
I am a complete novice when it comes to leather.
It will probably cook somewhat and might be a mess.
Not something I want to risk with the Mainline build.

What about covering the base in leather instead of the top?  You could build another base from MDF if you didn't want to experiment with the stock base.  Just a thought.

I remembered that an entry in the Craftsmens' Room at an early VSAC in Silverdale had a stereo amp and a preamp covered in what looked like tan leather. I think he also covered the cans containing the iron in red leather. I looked through all my pics of the several VSAC's but could not pin down these images to share. Anyone else remember those amps? Not sure, but it may have been the first VSAC in Silverdale. I would have to go up to the attic to find old VALVE issues to find B&W images. They were pretty pieces, but I don't know how they held up to use.

Found the builder's name__ Scott Divers, and it was a KT88 amp.

Cheers, Hank in Eugene
