Input wiring-broke drain wire on cat 5e cable

Accidentally broke drain wire while removing outer jacket. On the end I need. Is it ok to do a "western union" type splice and solder it together? It would save me having to go out and hunt down a cable. Thanks

Went ahead and tried it. Looks pretty good to me. No resistance measured across the splice.

Can't tell if you heated up the splice and added some solder but, if not, I'd suggest you do.
