How much is too much?

So I was looking at converting this little metal box my girlfriend found into a Quickie which she was even interested in helping me build.   While digging through my spare parts I found a nice unused pair of Nichicon MUSE 1000uF/35V caps I could use.  I also came across a pair of 10,000uF/16V caps and wondered would they be detrimental to the circuit.

How much capacitance is too much?

PB can chime in on the optimal values for the electrolytic - I would tend to think it would be ok to go as high as 10Kuf on that one.

If I was going through the trouble of building a Quickie, I would first try to avoid using electrolytics altogether, and if I did I would make sure they are new (they dont have good shelf life), and since they are cheaper than dirt I would just buy a half a dozen Elna Simic ll's at $2.50 a pop and be done with it. I believe the purpose of the caps is for filtering.

Maybe PB or Paul, Doc, Granger etc. could give some tidbits about the purpose of the Quickie caps (please, pretty please!).

Yeah, I would prefer a pair of film caps for better sound quality and may still go that route in the future.  For this project I want to use what I have on hand.  I was even considerig bypassing the electrolytics with 0.1uF film caps to see if that might make a positive diference.

Mostly, I'm in between projects and want something to fiddle with.

Umm...duh!  I just realized those 16V caps won't work in a 36V circuit.  So those are out.  Still curious about the higher capacitance.  Is 10,000uF too much?

Pardon me but I'm going from memory here...

There are power supply caps and cathode bypass caps.  The power supply are good with lower ESR electrolytics.  The cathode bypass is best a film.  But if that isn't feasible nice low ESR electrolytics are good.

Since we are on the subject of Q caps, what is the idea of placing a 22uf cap accross the 36v power supply? Eric, you are responsible for this idea, now what the hell? Cuz I just got some 22uf, 50v tants in, and they want a home.

Hey Greg - Paul had mentioned it when we were talking about batteries and sound etc. I didnt find that it made a difference though. I left it in until I accidentally shorted out the battery with sparks flying and everything. I dont use it now. In theory it makes sense. Some filtering as well as well as ultra quick discharge.
