--Basic Electronics--by Van Valkenburgh, nooger and neville-out of print can be found on  that auction site- there is a cd  and softcopies can be found although a little pricey--these books were i believe precedessors to the navy electronics books-these books are very good at explaining tubes, power supplies, rectifier tubes ,choke and rc filters -no theory no math except  ohms law---although somewhat basic and  remedial--the best i have come across for the beginner- really gives one a good background on just what is going on in there-some things are outdated ie: condenser for capacitor-volumes one and two are the most pertinent-

also if one google's --boozhoundlabs-- a vacuum tube hifi primer--he also explains quite well who is doing what and why

no --essential are 1 and 2---there is also cd on ebay--7 bucks  --
basic electronics vol 1-5  will get you there

no that one is basic electricity---even tho it would be good to read its all  related let me see if i can do this--http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=160328229222&ssPageName=STRK:MEWAX:IT
