It's been a couple months in the wait and build process - a little bit at a time.  Doc and crew....WOW!  I'm running this through the Mainline and it's just amazing.

You don't have a TT kit do you?

Oops...in my excitement I forgot to clean up!  ::)

That was a pretty speedy build!

I had no intention of finishing this weekend!

It went quicker than I thought it would.  I think it's a "Zen" moment  :o .  I broke the manual up into 7 chunks and only worked with those pages.  I really had no idea how far I was on the build until I got to the last piece.

Nice job and congratulations on getting up and running.

I also found that I really began to enjoy the build process once I started breaking the manual up into smaller chunks and spreading the build over several evenings a few hours at a time rather than just soldiering on into the small hours with tired eyes.
It’s also great to hear you are enjoying it with the Mainline I will be using the same combination quite a bit and the Sex for speaker duty.

Looks great, both inside and out. Nice matching plate/bell end/finish with the Mainline.

Looks great. Can't wait to hear your impression of how it sounds.

Makes me want to get mine done now.

Thanks everyone for the kind words.  Those of you building - you'll see a common thought here - don't hurry!  Once you start populating that area around the C socket you really have to slow down and insure everything is correct.  Digging back into that area will not be any fun if you have issues and find that's where it is located.

No listening last night.  Hopefully tonight.  But so far the level of detail that I've heard that this can discover is truly amazing.  I have replaced the Reduction/Integration (with updates  ::) ) with this and it is a step up.  A great addition to any system for those who listen to vinyl.

Noticed your Reduction on AudioGon. Realized it was yours when I saw the build. Best of luck with the sale.

Thanks!  Yes, that's mine out there.  Can't figure out where to put the second turntable so it's got to go.

I think things are settling in.

I posted an open question on Facebook to a couple of groups to list their "reference" albums.  Based on that I purchased the 180g versions of Paul Simon "Graceland" and Dire Straits "Brothers in Arms".  I wasn't aware that the 2006 release of Brothers in Arms was a double album with all full length songs nor that it was half speed mastered.  There are a couple more albums to acquire.  I had these already but as original releases.

Amazing...  just amazing.

It's not just the tubes...

I had a felt/carbon fiber mat and a screw down record clamp that came with the MMF-5.

Replaced the mat with a Herbies turntable mat and the screw clamp with a 9 oz BigBen record weight that just drops into place.

I think changing up those things also helped bring up the sound.

Aaron, couldn't agree with you more. My bedroom/office system has a Rega RP6. When I replaced the plastic sub-platter with a machined one from Groove Tracer, I noticed one of the easiest to hear improvements in sound I've ever experienced. Much improved bass definition and lower sound floor were the most obvious. Later added a Groove Tracer record weight and low slung tonearm weight. Once again, much improved sonics.

Perhaps I missed it, but which cartridge are you using with the Eros?

Also, nice looking build!

Thanks!

the one that came with it I believe, Goldring, the 1012GX.  I know that I've replaced the needle and probably bought the same one that came with it.

Pending expenditures that might be the next thing to get upgraded.  I feel confident now that as I upgrade these other items that I might even hear the difference!!

If your looking to upgrade that cartridge, you can plug a 1042 stylus or a Audio Note iQ3 straight into your cartridge.  They are both great.

Alan, I too have an RP6.  Is the Groovetracer that big of an improvement?  Did you do an acrylic or delrin platter as well?

Hi Mike,

I can only say that, to me, the up-grade to the Groove Tracer sub-platter seemed like one of the most dramatic up-grades I've ever done. I don't claim to have golden ears and I know this is all subjective, but I immediately heard clearer, cleaner bass, improvement through the entire range plus a better sense of general musicality. I'm still using the original platter and felt mat. The Groove Tracer Record Weight is neat and certainly can't hurt. Same with the dropped counter weight.

By the way, I'm no longer running the Exact cartridge supplied by Rega. I'm using a high output DynaVector 10x5 with a Soundsmith Ruby retip. that required raising the Rega arm with their adjustable arm spacer.

Once again, I know it's subjective, but I feel like what started out as really good TT, is now a great TT.

Thanks Alan.  I've heard great things about the Groove Tracer upgrades.  I had to choose between the GT subplatter or a set of JJ 2a3's and JJ ECC 81's goldpins for my Stereomour II and I went with the tubes on this go round.  GT on deck.  Oh yeah, I also ordered the new shunt regulation upgrade as well.

I'm another happy Grovetracer reference subplatter owner. While the machined subplatter is great I think the biggest benefit is the sapphire bearing and zirconia ball. The platter turns a lot smoother with less friction. That helps speed stability and reduces wow and flutter.  My opinion and experience for what it's worth.
