Hi everyone,

Just came across an interesting solution for D cell batteries on amazon.  It is a D cell adapter that allows you to put 2 batteries inside to increase capacity!

A D-cell alkaline battery is "supposed" to be 17,000mAh, a AA of similar quality will be 2,100mAh.  If you put 2 in parallel, that is 4,200mAh (with some assumptions). 

So, you would really want 8 AA batteries in parallel to get close to what a D cell will do in terms of lifetime. 

Duracell D-cells are about $1.50 each, AA's are $0.40 each.

I run mine down until there is either A. Distortion or B. No sound. The Q will let you know when its time. That's how I do it anyway. I don't think there is a "magic" number for the voltage.

In my opinion it can be useful if you want to use rchargable batteries, as AA ones are cheaper than D.

The average alkaline D cell is rated for 12,000 mAH.  A rechargeable AA will be 600-3000mAH.

The link that you posted is for an adapter that will put one AA cell into a piece of plastic that fits where a D cell would go.

A good NiMH rechargeable D-cell is rated for 10,000 mAh. They're just expensive ($15-20 each) and harder to find.
