Hi Luther,

For those of us who can't see, can you describe this and the "twist"?

I'm just now restarting the build of my sex amp after taking it all apart to put a nice black hammertone finish on the plate and tranny cap, and paint the PT lam stack red.  Got a set of full nickel MQ iron on the way and lots of other goodies.  For now I am just going to use the slightly dressed up alder base with a hand rubbed oil finish, and then next summer will build a more lavish base out of some nice Koa, birdseye Jatoba, or something else nice I have lying around.

Thanks,

Jim

Not sure what you wanted as I don't get the "twist". I do have a photo step by step build gallery on it.

The gallery does have words, short but to the point. The plastic "wings" project from the sides of the base and are decorative as well as supporting the spikes which support the base.

Hi Luther,

I'm totally blind so the pictures don't do me any good and I was hoping you could explain what the Wardsweb custom twist that you mention in the first post, is.  Just looking for a general verbal description of what you've done.

I'll look through your step-by-step photo gallery to see what I can pick up from that, but any descriptiion you could add would be helpful.

The "twist" is how the amp looks.  I have seen no other S.E.X. amp that looks like Luther's or comes close with regard to originality and style.

The base is painted a light cream color.  In addition, the base has three dados (i.e., grooves) cut into the perimeter about one half inch from the top.  The dados are used to hold three clear acrylic "wings" in place.  The wings are used to hold the feet of the base which are large, over-sized chrome points.  The points almost look like the weight at the bottom of a plumb line, but chrome.

The chassis plate, transformer bell and frames are highly polished to a mirror like finish. There is a matching chrome knob for the volume control.  The power transformer laminations and the output transformer bobbins have been painted the same cream color to match the base.

I hope this description helps.

Thanks, David, that's perfect.  Sounds really interesting but doesn't sound like my particular style, which is fine as I'm sure not a lot of folks will like what I end up doing to mine.  I'll admit that iI'm just not a big fan of chrome and I'll take brass or copper anyday.

this is what's so great about the BH community though -- everybody with their own vision and taste turning out lots of super cool and unique designs.

Thanks David for helping out here. I will add the chassis plate is actually chrome plated. There are also four long stainless knurl topped bolts that hold the chassis plate to the wood base by way of some threaded angle.

Some of the best looking amps I've seen were done in a red dye base with a cream chassis. It is a very classy and modern look. Hopefully G.Kennedy or someone will post their pics with a good description.

WOW .... what an honor ... coming from you ... who I feel builds gear with attention to detail unattainable by many ... myself included.

I have been away from the site for awhile ... 8 month old twins have me buried right now.  One of my Paramounts is on the fritz right now ... tried troubleshooting for a bit .. but just didn't have the time to get her running .... soon hopefully.

Here you go Paramounts in Red with a cream powdercoat on the chassis and metallic silver fleck powdercoat on the bell housing:

Thanks for posting. Don't sell yourself short. You did an amazing job on those. First to come up with the concept and second for your execution. They are incredible.

Funny how life gets in the way sometimes, but then that's the way it's suppose to be. Spend this irreplaceable time with your family. Memories made now will last a lifetime and can't be made up later. Not to worry, your gear will be waiting for you.
