Been Busy Building Stuff...

Thanks!  We go down south a couple times a year-the wife's family is in NC and SC, so maybe that would be a good time to stop by.  Think I saw in another thread you're running the Orcas, Dungeness subs, etc..  What preamp/amp setup are you using?

If you have low source output and inefficient speakers, the Smash will give you additional gain.  The Smash also will offer an upgraded attenuator, which is a bit tougher to do in the Stereomour itself.  Having the amp/preamp modularity allows for more flexibility in upgrading down the road.

I have a 23 step Valab that I plan on using in my soon to be shipped Stereomour. Will that not be a simple installation? Another preamp question...I feed from my Macbook pro to a Emotiva Dac 1 to my Crack. I use a fixed output rather then variable on the premise that I don't want the Emotiva's preamp to color the signal to the Crack. With my new Stereomour and my Orca's I may not have enough gain for my severe hearing loss. Will a Smash be a big upgrade over my Emotiva?

Emotiva is somewhat coy about specs on their website, but I infer that the unbalanced output is 1.0vRMS full scale. That's enough to get the Stereomour to clip on the loudest transients with music that is recorded up to full scale, but the margin is very small. Audible clipping on a majority of digital sources would be out of reach. A little more gain would probably be used much of the time. I'd call it more of a modest upgrade - easy to hear, but not overwhelming.  YMMV.
