A Northern Irish Quickie

Greetings from Belfast, Northern Ireland! I just finished my first ever kit build. It is of a stock Quickie but with the batteries placed below the chassis for a cleaner look. Currently it is being fed by an Audiolab 8200CD and is hooked into a restored Dynaco ST70. Here are some pics of the build:

Very nice...I would echo the question on the base: it is a lovely bit of work. What color/technique did you employ?  Enjoy....

Thanks for the positive comments! I really did nothing fancy to the base - it is the standard Bottlehead alder wood one. I simply gave it a good sanding down with 220 grit paper before a liberal wipe down with white spirits. When it dried I applied four coats of B&Q (the UK version of Home Depot) own brand walnut exterior wood satin finish, using a new paintbrush and leaving a couple of hours between coats.  It turned out much nicer than I was expecting. Sounds fantastic too!

Are their any issues with batteries on bottom versuses top, or is it just ease of access being the reason for batteries on top?

You know, as good as it looks, you will be overwhelmed by the sound. In some ways, it just doesn't make sense that something this inexpensive and simple could be so damned good! So much so, that I am building another. Be sure and let us know your impressions.

Nice work!

I used to mate my Quickie with a modded ST70.  It was a great combo.  Now I use it with a modded ST35.  There's something to the EL84 sound that I love.  Next I'm building a pair of Mark III's.

That look awesome!  I really like how the opaque white plates turn out, but really we should have sent you a green one ;)

Thats got to be the cleanest Quickie build I have seen to date. Very nice. All thats left to do now is put some rechargeables in there and a charge port and you have got yourself a $1000 pre-amp! Well almost, first there's the... oh stop me now!

Like the preamp!  By the way, are those homemade interconnects?  How do they sound?  (the ones in front that are multiple wires woven together).
