Somehow I missed your post. I found it as I was posting my finished base. I rounded the top outer edge with a 1/4 router bit and sanded with 100 then 150 grit. I then used the Minwax Polyurethane gloss with a bristle brush. For the base coat I used enough to soak the wood without allowing any runs. After that dried I used 220 grit, then another coat of Minwax, then 320 grit and a final coat. I really like the product. The attached picture is not the best, but gives a good idea of the surface. I also used this Minwax on a set of MLTL cabinets over African Ribbon Mahogany veneer.
