Stereomour OPT painting/blueing

Just curious: if the lacquer that coats them is removed, will the metal frames that surround the stock Stereomour OPT's react to something like Birchwood Casey (which I plan to use on the transformer bell)?

I don't have an answer for you, but I'm also curious about treating the metal covers of output transformers.  I've considered doing the same but this metal seems a bit different from the bells which I have blued on many other builds.

I have a SEX on order and might want to do the same.
