Sounds great when powering off

I just finished my Crack build, and I'm a total noob. The LEDs and tubes all light up, and my resistances and voltages were all within range. When I went to fire it up I heard a loud pop when I plugged in my headphones. Music was playing, but there was a little static and the occasional pop, and it the volume was really low. So I plan on reworking all of my joints, especially at the headphone jack, and hope I don't make things worse. I will definitely post some pictures if I still have issues. What I found really weird though was that I shut it off while music was still playing and my headphones were still on, and it somehow sounded great in those few seconds it takes to power down. Does that tell you guys anything specific?

I'd imagine the junction where the black wires meet at the headphone jack isn't solid. Tug on each of those wires and see if one isn't well captured by solder.
