S.E.X. and speaker choice

Hey all,

Been gone awhile doing this and that.  We are building a new house with my own dedicated office!  I'll finally be able to put together a little office sound system and was originally going with the stereomour.  But the S.E.X. will work better for both headphone and speaker listening.  Not sure about the speakers for the S.E.X.  I understand the more efficient speakers will do great, just don't have the funds for an awesome pair of speakers.  Would 86-89db sensitivity speakers sound ok in a smaller room environment?  Not trying to shake the walls or anything, just want some good audio in the office while working.  Thanks for the help in advance!!!

You are right, you can do things in a small room that will never work on paper.  But 86-89dBW might be pushing it.  Still, you have nothing to lose by trying it if you already have those speakers. 

What is your budget for new speakers, that would help.

I was thinking about the NHT Superzero 2.0. It's an 86db speaker that's been used with the stereomour.  I've also looked at the klipsch rb-61's which are 95db and should work ok. I've seen them amazon for $400.00 for the pair. I'd rather spend less if I can get away with it but won't mind dropping more if the klipsch will sound significantly better.

I bought the S.E.X. amp for my headphones, but decided to build speakers for it. I bought a pair of Fostex 208E drivers on ebay, then a flat-pack of recommended enclosure, with T90A super tweeter. Am in the process of building right now, will let you know what they sound like in a week or so. They are large speakers, so it depends on your taste/size of room. I think the SEXy speakers on the Bottlehead website would be a good choice. Most sensitive speakers pre-built (non-DIY) cost $1000's. See Goodwin, Cain & Cain for example.

I would recommend doing some google searches, but First go to audiogon.com and look for good used speakers.

So I wanted to give a public shout out to Grainger49 for helping me with a speaker solution.  I appreciate everyone's feedback.  Ultimately I went with Grainger's suggestion for an extreme budget set of speakers with some modifications.  I'll update everyone on the outcome as soon as I get the purchase authorization from the wife for the S.E.X. amp and get that built.  Hope everyone has a great week.
