Revox G36

You would of course have to modify it to the RIAA curve, and I'm not sure what the output level of the playback head is so I don't know what kind of sensitivity the playback preamp has or the cartridge output levels it could handle.

Considering the time and effort it would take just to figure out if it would be practical,
I suggest you sell the G36 and buy a tubed kit that was designed as a phono stage from the git go.
Or it might be worth a try doing some kind of trade with a tape lovin' tube kit company owner?

Depending upon the condition and the valuation I might be talked into considering it. I do agree it would be better to get a purpose made phono preamp than to chop up a functional G36.

Definitely keep the G36 intact and build a specific Phono pre. The G36 is worth way more "unmolested".
I love the sound off my G36 and D36, although I'm toying with modding the G36 to 7 1/2  / 15 IPS  CCIR.
This means a new capstan  and some eq component changes, but quite doable. A thing to watch for on the tube Revox machines is they use different capstans for 50hz vs 60hz .I have 50 Hz ones but the 60Hz ones are in the " unobtanium" class unless you're lucky. I've looked in the past and have never found one.
