Resistance Reading Problem

Hi All,

I am hoping that someone can help me out. I am trying to fire-up my fresh built Stereomour and have a problem. I am checking the resistance at the terminal strips using an auto ranging meter. I am concerned that the readings are not coming out as described in the manual and need some help figuring out what the reading mean. Here are the readings that I have:
1-373; 2-11.45; 2-0; 4-248.3; 5-1.506; 6-7.1; 7-8.3; 8-6; 9-7.5; 10-6; 11-136.8; 12-249; 13-0; 14-11.94; 15-368; 16-1.192; 17-360; 18-96; 19-343; 20-9.78; A1-132.3; A2-; A3-248.4; A4-1.212; C1-0.218; C2-; C3-249.5; C4-0.318

My concern (I think) is 16/17/18/19/20/C1/C3 . Can someone give me some guidance as to where I have miss-wired my Stereomour?

Brian

Brian,

It is best, to get the widest assistance, to post the transformer terminal number terminal number or tube pin number, the reading you get and the expected reading.  Otherwise only those with a Stereomour can help.  There are only a few Stereomours out there.

Sadly it is difficult to produce columns in a post.

Your right Grainger49. I will rewind and reform my question after I get a better grip on your comments so I can say something that means something to more readers. Please excuse a Noobie... I am trying :) and having a blast!

Brian,

You only need to post the measurements that are more than 15% off the expected.  That is 15% lower or higher than what is in the resistance checks.

The columns should be like this.  You have to use the space bar, tabs don't work:

Measuring point             Expected          Measured
Terminal T1                   100k ohm          50k ohm

Hi Grainger49,

I definitely appreciate your input. It forced me to think about the issue and review all of my work. I think that I have found the problem after rewiring both of the secondaries... I did find a broken wire and a total screw up on my part. I mounted miss-matched resistors when I built the Power Supply PC Board AND when I put together the "other side". My bone head mistake.

I thank you for your suggestions on how to better convey my problem and will abide by them if I have any further problems like this.

Many thanks!

Brian

Brian, I am also doing my first build with the Stereomour and also had trouble with the resistance readings.  It sounds like you found your problem.  My only other observation is that I completely ignored any terminal reading designated with the '*'.  I couldn't get a consistent or meaningful reading for those terminals.  Good luck and I'd be interested to hear how you are progressing.

shcaz,

The kit was up and running last weekend. As I noted previously in this thread, the biggest issue me with the resistance readings was that I miss-matched the wire wound resistors on the power supply board and between terminal points 6/16 and 10/20. The two sets were miss-matched. Tracking down that issue I found a broken wire on one of the secondaries. After those two issues were fixed the readings fell where they should be.

The only other issue that I had was that I had the power tube sockets rotated 180 degrees. Paul does a much better job explaining the problem in another thread that I started about AC readings. I suggest that you find it and give it a read... It is titled "AC Voltage Reading Problem"; Paul explains how the socket should be rotated. A MUST read.
