Reduction Spinning

So my task of the day is to plow through as much of the Reduction manual as I can. Since I currently have the only Reduction that is connected in a system, I thought it would be fun(ny) to post a Reduction Spinning thread.

First up: filing the stuff I listened to the other day (partially while working on the Submissive manual, actually) and didn't put away yet:

Anthony Braxton (with Leo Smith, Dave Holland, Richard Teitelbaum)

Joshua,

Congratulations!  I'm resisting the urge to post with the "needs pictures" banner.

Still, I'm looking at the list.  I recognize Kraftwerk, have Autobahn, but ...  I only understand the other words yet don't recognize a thing.

Now I am feeling like an Old Fart.

Hmm, maybe I'll swap out the Tube Phono and roll in a Reduction over the weekend...  How're you liking it fully upgraded vs. your Seduction?

Sun Ra - Cosmos (Inner City)

@Grainger My tastes are odd, and ever expanding. My only rule for music is that it needs to grab me in some way, emotionally or intellectually. I gave up on popular music at a very early age and never stopped exploring the unpopular. I became a music obsessive, then a record collector, then a (somewhat reluctant) audiophile.

@sam ibid. Also, these are all my personal records at my house. Some are more playable than others at BHHQ...

@PB It's sounding really nice. Caps have settled in quite nicely and timbres are really cooking on it. I've mostly been doing headphone listening. Your mods made it noticeably quieter (note to everyone else: I have a prototype that has been the proving ground for developments that will benefit the people who by this phonostage). The overall sound is fast and clean.

In my universe Sun Ra is God, or at least a demi-god.

Antique Blacks! Cosmic Tones for Mental Therapy! Nothing Is...! Strange Strings! Strange Celestial Roads! Purple Night!  (just a few of my favorites)

I'd beware of those 4Men reissues, which I understand are 99% of the time sourced digitally, from 16/44 files no less. No different than playing a CD.

I have an original pressing of that record. Stunning.

Would it be possible to get a summary of the mods done so far? I'd be interested in a parts list as I have a Reduction on order. Guess I'll be reading that manual soon :) ... Can't wait.

Thanks!

The stock circuit has similar parts values to the Eros, but they are amalgamated differently.

0.01uF EQ cap (5% film and foil parts are supplied with the kit)
0.03uF EQ cap, which is three 0.01uF caps in parallel (again, 5% film and foil caps are supplied)
0.1uF coupling cap and 0.47uf coupling cap (more 5% film and foil caps, though the 5% tolerance isn't useful here)

I wouldn't recommend going out and buying boutique caps until you have the Reduction in-hand.  While there is more space for different parts, there still isn't space for Teflon caps or anything along those lines, and the 0.47uF caps are best upgraded after the upgrade kit is retrofitted.
