Quickie makes music sound "blown"

I currently have a Uberfrost dac running into the Quickie then from there into a Crack all feeding a pair of HD800. Some tracks get this weird blown speaker sound that I do not get just running the Crack without the Quickie. Is there somewhere I should look to fix this?

There's certainly the possibility that if you're running the Quickie wide open, you may be overdriving the 3S4.  (IE - turn the level control down a bit on the Quickie)

This would be supported by the "blown" sound occurring during loud passages regardless of the level set on the Crack itself.

I'll throw in with Paul.  Clipping sounds a lot like a blown driver[size=12pt].

Sure, take the Quickie out of the system. It's giving you too much gain and you don't need it in there. If you must have it in there turn down the volume on the Crack. That will keep the Quickie from overdrivng the 12AU7 in the Crack.

Sure, take the Quickie out of the system. It's giving you too much gain and you don't need it in there. If you must have it in there turn down the volume on the Crack. That will keep the Quickie from overdrivng the 12AU7 in the Crack.

I would love to keep the quickie in the system given that the bass it adds is pretty awesome. Is there a away to alter the wiring for lower gain? Instead of a 12au7 I am running a E80CC if that makes a difference.

Yes, turn down the level control before the stage that's clipping.
