Question for Grainger on vinyl for tubes

Hello Grainger, have a question about some records I found. Thought I was well versed in this subject but this is new to me. I was looking at the catalogue for Speakers Corner records, there are some listings in the classical section for a record company called Tacet. They have a group of discs called Tube only. Are you familiar with these? I was wondering why they are tube only, are they mastered different?, are they recorded on tube gear? Thought this was pretty interesting.

Cheers,
Shawn P.

Thanks Magnafuzz, doh, I guess I coulda googled it myself. I guess I'm having a flare-up of my sometimers disease, my brain works properly some of the time! That is definitely worth checking out, they have a pressing of Vivaldi's four seasons, I think I'll order it. By the way if you happen to like Alt. Rock, The White Stripes recorded their final album, with and on tube gear.

Cheers,
Shawn P.

Shawn,

Glad someone found the info.  I have very few Classical albums, either CD or LP.  I would have guessed the answer but it would have been just that, a guess.

I was listening to an LP a couple of weeks ago and I noticed it was mastered on all tube Tim de Paravicini electronics.  Sounded liquid.

Thats okay Grainger, had a question about vinyl and you were the first person that came to mind. I assume thats the Tim De Paravicini that engineered all the MoFi gear and now runs EAR. In that case I'm sure it sounded great.

Cheers,
Shawn

I have two of the Tacet recordings and I love them. Quite an impressive recording set-up they use. This was the first time I ever read about microphones with tubes in them.

Cheers;

Yeah, Tim has much gear in quite a few studios... Water Lilly, Mofi ,etc... and occasionally he has to dash out to Paul McCartneys house for some tweaking , and worked with Floyd etc...VERY cool thing about Tim is he has many lps and tapes of actual original masters of Pink Floyds sessions that he likes to play for you.... I certainly wasnt going to say, No thanks Tim, I gotta run!!! I even got a hug from the man.... Tough on the outside, warm and fuzzy on the inside....
