A few weeks ago I ordered a crack amp while I was waiting for the amp to come I made a base and headphone stand out of oaK. Thursday I soldered up the crack and wow what a great sounding amp! listened to it for a few days than Sunday put the speedball upgrade into it and wow even better. A few upgrades are a TDK pot, Solens caps, and better rca jacks.
Can't wait to start rolling tubes in it!

Looks great! Congrats! I like the rear vent idea. You may want to try mounting the capacitors to the plate with some cable tie mounts so they're not flappin' in the wind ;)

I mounted some screen to the bottom of the base and want to cable tie the caps to that. I cut the screen so once the caps are cable tied to it it will go down through the top. I also want to upgrade the last power supply cap and add a choke. I thought that buy putting the caps on the bottom it would help the air flow to the top plate and keep the speedball a little cooler.

That makes sense. I just noticed the little matching enclosed fan you made too, that amp is going to be nice and cool :)

Nice work!  The Oak is very nice and you cracked me up with the fan in a stand.  Not that I think it is a bad idea, I like it!

Are you blowing in or drawing out?

Regardless, nice work!  I, too, am fan of the rolled edges.

Thanks, I use that little fan alot for air flow in a stereo cabinate, soldering etc. While i was building the base and stand I thought I would build the frame for it. It just worked out to fit behind the amp. If I blow it in it does keep the amp nice and cool.

Not that Im any good in the woodshop but I like a bit lighter finishes in general, however that looks great!  Love the Oak.

Hipcat,

I see that the fan is run off of a wall wart.  So it is DC.  Do you here the fan and did you feed it a lower voltage.  Doing that lowers the speed, and of course the CFM but makes it very quiet.

I don't hear the fan at all when its on ,its out of a computer my friend upgraded. I just matched up the voltage and put a lamp cord switch on it. It moves quite abit of air and because its dc I can run it close to my tubes and not get any interferance. If I blow it across my tubes it keeps them cool to the touch.

I finally understand your Crack name. Pennsylvania Crack!  I kept thinking Pa Crack, Ma Crack, Baby Crack...
